Won't Somebody Please Think of the Tigers?

Pixie’s story begins with the story of her parents. Her father, Lionel Lysia, was descended from a very long line of vampire hunters, dating back to the time of William the Conqueror, or so he boasted. Naturally, he took up the mantel of his forefathers when he came of age. Around the same time he assumed the duties of vampire hunter, he also assumed the duties of husband, marrying a young woman named Catherine. Within five years, the couple had three sons; Henry, James, and Robin. In 1504, Catherine gave birth to her first and only daughter, Ariel, who would eventually become the vampire known as Pixie.

Lionel’s duties offered many hazards, as could only be expected. In 1510, he countered an especially wily vampire called Caliban. Caliban was a Gangrel antitribu who ran with a pack of city Gangrel and managed to outlive them all when Lionel and his team defeated them, due to his differing disciplines. Caliban sought revenge on Lionel and eventually found out where the vampire was living. He came to the house, intending to slaughter him, but found that only his wife and children were home. Caliban became enamored by the beautiful Catherine and thought to win her over by begging, blackmailing, and demanding other Kindred in the city to sway her.

After four years, nothing was working so Caliban attempted the direct approach, openly propositioning Catherine one evening while Lionel was on the hunt. When she refused him, he swore he would have vengeance. To make both Catherine and Lionel pay, he kidnapped their daughter, Ariel, and Embraced her. Since he had no real use for the girl, he abandoned her in the woods. There, she took up with a Camarilla Gangrel pack, led by a man named Ferdinand Strong. She stayed with them for several years, learning everything she could.

In 1529, Ariel tried to return home to her parents and brothers. She did not receive the warm welcome she had been hoping for. Her father was horrified by the fate that had fallen on his daughter and tried to kill her. Ariel managed to escape, but her father and brothers took an oath, vowing that no matter how many generations it took, they would destroy the soulless creature who had taken over Ariel’s body.

Ariel made her way to London. For a long while, she served as Harpy to the Prince there. She briefly returned to Stratford to see Queen Elizabeth’s procession in 1575. During the evening of the parade, her brother Robin spotted her in the crowd and beat her, nearly putting her into torpor, but she managed to escape, returning to London. In 1581, she encountered Caliban again. Years after her Embrace, his obsession with Catherine had turned into madness. Realizing how much Ariel looked like her mother, Caliban tried to blood bind her. Ariel narrowly escaped, but elected to remain in London.

Years later, Ariel befriended an up and coming actor named Will. He was fascinated by her and eventually, she told him her story, editing out a few names and places. Word got out that Ariel had made this mistake. Fearing for the Masquerade, the Prince asked her to leave London for awhile and she agreed to slip away quietly, provided she was protected from Blood Hunt. Thanks to her services as Harpy, she was permitted this boon and left for Paris. When she said goodbye to Will, however, he gave her a pendant that she keeps with her to this day, to remember him by.

In France, Ariel was once again confronted by Caliban. This time, she wouldn’t wait around for him to find her again. She quickly moved to Spain. There, she took up with a Malkavian named Pedro (“Peter” to the British Ariel) who led a pack of children vampires in Toledo. These “lost boys” performed various spy services for the Prince and lived in a sort of commune, in which Pedro was considered their “father” and they were his “children.” Ariel fit in well, still possessing the body of a fourteen year old.

Meanwhile, back in London, word got around that Ariel’s actor friend Will had just written a play called The Tempest, utilizing the story of Ariel and Caliban as one of the subplots. In response to this threat, the Globe Theatre was burned down, but the manuscript managed to survive and was performed in 1613. Will died three years later. No one expected anything to become of his plays.

In Toledo, the Lysia Family Oath caught up with Ariel again. The son of her brother Henry, Edmond Lysia, managed to track Ariel down. He fought her and sent her into torpor, but before he could kill her, Pedro arrived on the scene and killed him. Pedro then took Ariel’s body and put it into a safe haven for nearly eighty years. During that time, Caliban caught wind of Pedro’s connection to Ariel. He captured and killed several of Pedro’s “children,” demanding to know where Ariel was, but Pedro refused to give her up.

Ariel was revived in 1699 and after a year of adjusting to the new world, resumed her duties alongside Pedro and the other children. Caliban returned in 1728 and slaughtered all of Pedro’s “children” except for six who managed to escape along with Pedro and Ariel. They scattered across Europe for awhile and Ariel decided to return to Stratford, the place of her birth, to seek Golconda. After fifty nine years of trying, she finally gave up.

By 1797, word had gotten around that Ariel was in Stratford. The husband/wife pairing of Jeremiah and Vanessa Lysia managed to track down and torture several of Ariel’s friends to death, but were unable to locate her. Fearful, Ariel traveled to London. To keep a low profile, she started going by the name of “Pixie,” the nickname that Will had given her years ago.

In 1829 Captain James Stirling sailed to Perth, Australia. Eager to escape London and hopefully the Lysia Oath, Pixie began keeping track of this voyage, following his every move as meticulously as she could. In 1876, she decided she could live sufficiently in Perth and arranged to travel there through Pedro who had sizeable connections. There, she hoped to escape the Lysia Oath once and for all. She lived with the natives for a brief time before relocating to the actual colony. She lived a quiet life, fairly un-note worthy, except for a mild frenzy that left her with a panther tail.

When gold was discovered east of Perth, the population began to soar. Pixie decided to integrate herself into the Camarilla society developing there. She began to form contacts in the Western Australian Acclimatization Committee and used one of them to invite Albert le Souef to select a site to build the Perth Zoo in 1897. A year later, the zoo opened, greatly influenced by Pixie. It became quite popular. In 1902, the Duke and Duchess of York came on tour to plant two Norfolk Island pine trees in the zoo. Pixie was alarmed to discover, however, that among the visiting dignitaries was a man named Robert Lysia. She killed him before any trouble could arise.

During the 1950s, Pixie established herself as an unofficial deputy, desiring to help the Prince and Sheriff as a spy without drawing too much attention to herself. She had no desire for status, merely for an ordered society. Pixie continues to maintain her connections to the zoo. In 1998, Jesse Weir assumed the highest position in the bureaucracy of the Perth Zoo and Pixie made him her ghoul. Around town, Pixie is often seen in outrageous Halloween costumes that distract attention from her tail.
